CASEC: chemicals finally under control
The company's legacy desktop application, reverse-engineered and reimagined as a modern web-based SaaS product.
The work covered analysing the existing software, defining requirements with the client, and discussing implementation and UX in client meetings. I also helped finalise the project reports.

Trisbee
I joined the founders early and led the technology team as the company grew from three people. When the first version could not keep up with what customers needed, I made the call to rebuild it, and the team carried it through: both systems ran side by side until the migration was done. What we ended up with was the team's work: a modular B2B payments platform, cashless and without extra hardware, built for even the smallest businesses across several countries, currencies, languages and payment methods. Running a fintech marketplace was uncommon in our market then, and I learned a lot along the way, mostly from the things that did not work the first time.
What we worked on together:

- Moving the backend API from Java and Play Framework to Spring and Kotlin
- Web apps in Node.js, TypeScript, React and Next.js, with a design system and private packages

Payment app kickoff
When I met the founders, František and Matěj, they had just bought a small startup. A few days later they asked if I would fly with them to Riga, where SWG's fintech-focused startup accelerator was taking place, so I did. After gaining experience, we rebranded. From then on we sold actively, testing and adapting the solution for customers. It was hard: every time we adjusted something, another piece fell apart. Under the requirements and the pressure to scale, we relaunched.
Europe Expansion
Beyond the Czech Republic, we tried selling in Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Romania, Peru and a few other markets. Running a fintech marketplace was uncommon at the time, and every market brought its own payment methods, gateways and challenges, so we learned a lot along the way.
The platform grew modular for it: several countries, currencies, languages and payment methods, still B2B, cashless and without extra hardware, for even the smallest businesses.
Malá pokladna: EET, mobile POS
A simple cash payment and sales-recording service, loved by thousands of merchants for its ease of use and for linking paper receipts to online records. Each pre-printed receipt carried a unique code that opened its full details online: amount, items, VAT and company details. It kept merchants compliant with the Czech EET law, or simply made writing a receipt quick. I handled ongoing maintenance, security updates and the Trisbee integration for the service's relaunch.

Trisbee Event Ticketing
A ticketing product for event organisers, launched as a pilot MVP. Around 150 events ran on the platform, with QR-code tickets checked through a native mobile app for paperless entry. The pilot included well-known events such as Prague Coffee Festival, United Islands of Prague and Povaleč, and several events at Burza #4 and Fuchs2. It paved the way for Boom Events, a new company with a dedicated team, built on the technology and cloud infrastructure developed at Trisbee.
Trisbee POS
A cash register system for hospitality. We acquired a local POS already used in several restaurants and bars, where bartenders rated its UX highly. We adapted its source code to run in Docker on AWS with autoscaling, so it could grow and later reach markets outside the Czech Republic. We took care of its maintenance, worked through a fair share of technical debt, and relaunched the native app wrappers for macOS, iPadOS, Windows, Android and Linux. The system kept working offline, caching data through an internet or power outage.
Features: cash register, stocktaking, inventory management, shift tracking, daily reports and a supplier overview.

Burda International CZ
The magazines ran on Drupal versions too old to upgrade, with no backward compatibility, so the new platform was built from scratch on a current Drupal. Much of it I learned along the way, from the Drupal community and from colleagues at the German parent company, whose distribution we built on.
Alongside the projects, and together with the operations team and the hosting agency:
- Payment gateway integrations
- A migration plugin that moved thousands of articles and gigabytes of related data
- Composer for PHP dependencies, and a newer frontend workflow
- A CDN for assets, separate from the apps, with better backups
- Error monitoring with Sentry instead of log files on the servers
- New servers, deployment and rollback, and weekly work with the hosting agency on caching and performance
- Led the tender for the mobile app supplier, and built the purchase flow embedded in the apps
- An ad rendering engine in JavaScript
- A few open-source plugins, still on the company's GitHub

Marianne: magazine platform relaunch
The Marianne magazine website, relaunched on a new platform built on a Drupal distribution developed by the company's German branch. The work covered new module development, frontend implementation, and content migration from the legacy platform.
The relaunch also meant coordinating with the operations team to move the company's SVN and legacy Git repositories and its Jenkins setup to a self-hosted GitLab instance. To support the project, I initiated an internal Redmine for managing feedback, tasks and bug reports. The new platform later carried the relaunches of other magazine websites, including ELLE.cz.

Dny Marianne: shopping fever event
A yearly four-day shopping event run by Marianne magazine, with discounts of up to 70 % at partner shops. I ran the selection of the agency that built its native iOS and Android apps. On our side, we integrated the payment gateway on the backend and built the checkout as a web view inside the apps, indistinguishable from the native screens around it.
Talk at DrupalCamp CS 2017 in Brno
"První projekt na Drupal 8 očima nedrupalisty": the first project on Drupal 8, seen through the eyes of someone who was not a Drupal developer. A talk in Czech at the Czech and Slovak Drupal community's yearly conference.
Magazine online subscription
A custom e-commerce platform for the publisher, where customers could buy magazine subscriptions, often bundled with gifts, as well as single issues, cookbooks and selected merchandise. Built on OpenCart, with custom-developed modules to support the publisher's needs.

McDonald's: Srdcem spolu, Ice Hockey World Championship 2015
The McDonald's campaign microsite for the 2015 Ice Hockey World Championship. Fans sent a photo and a message of support for the Czech national team, and the messages were shown on screens inside Prague's O2 Arena during the games.
Oriflame Cosmetics: 25 years in the Czech Republic
A microsite for Oriflame's 25th anniversary in the Czech Republic, with a competition for customers: visitors sent in their answers to enter a prize draw.
KetoDiet e-commerce
The KetoDiet online shop, built on a customised Joomla. I worked on several changes to its custom configuration: checkout variants, pricing and more.

The StudioArt visual identity: the logo and its tagline, "komplexní webová řešení", complete web solutions.
Content Management System
Our own content management system, with modules for our clients. It connected to Google Analytics and had SEO scoring, scheduled publishing, permissions, a tree-based content structure, localisation and more. I also wrote several plugins and themes for the open-source CMS it was built on, and released them to that CMS's community.

Client websites
Websites for our clients: local organisations, sports clubs and fan communities, small businesses and services. For example, a new website for Sokol Nové Veselí (opens in a new tab), the sports and leisure club in a small town, running on our own PHP CMS.
Marketing and content creation
For Házená Nové Veselí, a handball club: set up its Facebook page and looked after it, with promotion, marketing materials made in Photoshop, filmed video spots and regular posts, then handed it over to the club.
